Principals message
Ms Mary Udu, Principal Primary
Kopkop College Kavieng Campus was established in 2009 by its Board of Directors. This was brought about by the obvious need and desire for quality education growing in New Ireland. The demand for quality education is emerging as the basis and direction for which many of our parents are pursuing for their children.
Kopkop College, Kavieng Campus comprises of four schools. These are Early Childhood Care and Education, Junior School (Pre-Prep, Prep and Gr 1), Middle School (Gr 2, Gr 3 and Gr 4) and Senior School (Gr 5, Gr 6, Gr 7 and Gr 8).
The Curriculum in the ECCE focuses on building the foundations by having students learn the basic skills in English, Mathematics and Expressive Arts. The students are given the opportunity to master the phonics of the Alphabet.
In Mathematics, students are taught the essentials of the numbering system and how these are applied in all levels of schooling. Mastering essential knowledge of English and Mathematics is critical to the development of the students’ future education especially if he is to satisfactorily progress through later stages of education.
The Focus of the Junior School is to build on the foundations laid and to strengthen the knowledge, skills and attitudes developed in the Early Childhood Curriculum. The introduction of science skills is undertaken with emphasis on research and investigation processes. Students at this level are already reading and they are exposed to and expected to acquire confidence in all areas of education.
These essential knowledge and skills are strengthened in the Middle School. Teachers are required to deepened students understanding of English, Mathematics and Science and of course other subjects. They start to establish the pathway for which students will pursue as they begin preparation for senior grades. Students are taught to be confident in their approach and are expected to demonstrate moral obligations and qualities in their everyday learning activities.
The curriculum in Senior school commencing grade 5, 6, 7 & 8 are focused on independent learning. Teachers in these grades are required to plan and program for development of research and reporting on their findings. They are exposed to the use of computers and through this understanding; students learn to do power point presentation. At all possible avenues, students learning must involve research activities, targeting different subject matters, especially on the environment and important events occurring around the world.
Our Grade Eight National Examination results for the last couple of years have been very good and it is important that we maintain this level of achievement. To ensure that this is maintained, our teachers are constantly attending professional staff development programs that focuses on ensuring they are kept abreast of new changes in curriculum.
The founder of the School Ms Maria Kopkop is very passionate about helping young children gain an excellent education. The school will continue to expand based on her plans for expansion.
Thank you

Here, its all about getting them ready for Secondary School. Our curriculum gives students the skills and knowledge they will need for the transition into Secondary School and their further education, as well as making a strong and positive contribution to society.
In the class room our teachers use dynamic marking which happens live and provides students with instant feedback on areas of work to focus on. Our teachers are continuously assessing and tracking individual progress, ensuring that learning in personalized and opportunities are not missed. It is important for us that our students are able to think globally, work well in groups and be confident enough to take their own path where necessary.
