Assesment Strategies
Assessment in Classroom
Assessment is a key component of learning because it helps students learn. When students are able to see how they are doing in a class, they are able to determine whether or not they understand course material. Assessment can also help motivate students.
The teacher has a variety of techniques that can be used to assess students’ educational performances. The techniques that are commonly used are:
Assessment in Classroom
Homework assignment
An exercise given to students to carry out in their own time, using the resources available such as uncontrolled supervision, and can be used as a practical exercise.
Project work
Usually carried out over a long period of time, often involves practical and theory, sometimes carried out individually, other times in groups; students can be assessed on what is produced (product assessment), or on how the project is carried out (process assessment), or both.
Bookwork
The teacher can assess how well the student keeps written records of what the teacher has taught her or him in class. These defined processes can be as work ethic and discipline. These classified disciplinary matters represent neatness and accuracy, and this is what normally, a teacher must be watching for.
Observation
The teacher assesses by observing the students work attitude and behaviour in class. The teacher must look for how well he or she interacts with the teacher, with the other students, how well he or she participate in class discussion and sharing of ideas. Observation is a very vital tool to measure assesses the psychological and emotional status of the student.
The application of the above processes must be enforced by respective schools.
Assessment Testing
Our assessment testing strategies cover three main learning capacities:
a. Achievement Test/Classroom test
The Achievement Test will deal independently in measuring the learning outcome that has taken place as a result of teaching in the classroom, and its relationships with homework, and special project assignments. As a reminder, most classroom testing measures achievement.
b. Performance Test
Performance Test shall deal, and address how well a student can carry out selected operations tasks or work performance under certain controlled conditions. Practical tests are of this type of assessment.
c. Extra-Curricular Test – Inquiry learning
Extra-Curricular Tests, relating to additional and special educational needs are important, particularly to complement and enhance curriculum responsibilities.
It is important to note that using the various assessment techniques must be, subjected to the specific courses and subject needs and requirements, by virtue of the subject designed test questions, and the delivery approach and administering. It is also important to note that homework assessment do not take control of the official assessment procedures.
